Who they were
From Nerja, in Málaga, he began as a poet and has never entirely stopped: his material is language, and specifically the language manufactured by advertising, tourism and politics. He forges road signs, posters and campaigns until they say what they actually mean. His «maps» —of Málaga, Valencia, Ciudad Juárez— are critical cartographies made in workshops with local people, and among the few of his works that can be freely reproduced because he publishes them himself. Andalusia Prize for Fine Arts in 1997.
