Buying art and antiques with the provenance up front

Opens in 2027. Nothing is sold here today: this page explains what it will be and gathers the professionals who want to be there on day one.

There are two ways to buy an antique piece online. One is an enormous catalogue where half the listings say «antique oil» and you have to take their word for it. The other is the one we are building.

What it will be

A place where the listing says what is there

Artist or workshop, period, medium, dimensions, interventions and provenance, with the gaps declared rather than covered up. What today has to be dragged out of a seller with seven questions, written down before you ask. It is the same standard the buying guides already demand, applied to whoever is selling.

The two rooms, kept apart

Galleries and antique dealers are two trades and here they will stay apart, because whoever is after contemporary work is not after an Isabelline chest of drawers. The catalogue will be a single one for whoever does not want to choose.

Price on display

No «price on request». A price you have to ask for by email is a price that changes depending on who is asking, and that is exactly the practice that drives away the buyer who is starting out.

Published commission

What we charge will be written down, will be the same for everyone and will not buy positions. The order is not for sale: it is in the pact, dated and with a change log so it can be checked that we have not moved it.

And until then

None of this is worth anything if, on the day it opens, there is nobody to buy from. That is why what is being built now is the layer underneath: the directory of houses checked one by one, with the source of every field, and the guides that explain what to look at in each speciality. When the marketplace opens, it opens on top of that.

If you sell, and want to be there on day one

This is for galleries and antique dealers. Leave us a way to reach you and what you sell, and we will let you know when there are terms to read. It is not a registration, it costs nothing and it commits neither side.

Who handles your data. Teselara. You can write to us through any of the forms on this site to exercise the rights listed below.

What data. What you write: name, email address, telephone if you leave it, and the text of your message. We also store the date, your IP address and the browser you sent the form from, because they are the only evidence of when it was sent and that a person sent it.

What for. Only to reply to you and to do what you ask. Specifically:

- Contact. To answer what you ask. - Claiming a listing. To check that you are the owner of the business and to correct, update or remove the listing. - Interest in the 2027 marketplace. To let you know when it opens and to ask the questions needed to prepare for it. It is not a registration and not a commitment: neither yours nor ours.

What we do NOT do with it. We do not pass it on to anybody. We do not use it to send you anything you have not asked for. We do not put it on any mailing list. If you write to claim a listing, that email address is used for that and not to tell you about something else.

How long we keep it. The message and the reply are kept for as long as they may be needed to evidence what was asked and what was done, and at most three years from the closing of the matter. In a listing claim this matters: the proof that you asked us to remove your data is precisely what has to be kept in order to show that it was removed.

Legal basis. Your consent, which you give by ticking the box and can withdraw whenever you want, and our legitimate interest in being able to show how we dealt with a claim.

Your rights. You can ask us to give you access to your data, correct it, delete it, restrict its use, object to it or take it with you. It is done by writing, without justifying the reason and at no cost. You can also complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency.

One more thing, because it is the one usually missing. Removing a listing from the directory does not require giving us explanations, nor talking to anybody on the telephone, nor proving anything beyond the business being yours. You ask, and it is done.

Frequently asked

Can I buy anything today?
No. Today Teselara is a directory of galleries and antique dealers and a collection of buying guides. The marketplace opens in 2027 and until that day nothing here is for sale. If anyone tells you otherwise, it is not us.
What will be for sale?
The same as what is already in the directory: old master paintings and sculpture, prints and drawings, furniture, clocks, jewellery, silver, ceramics and lighting. Pieces from houses with a trade, not from street markets. The cut-off below is deliberate: below a certain level the market is already well served and does not need another one.
How will it differ from what already exists?
In that each piece’s listing will have to say what today it almost never says: exactly what it is, what documentation comes with it, what interventions it has had and where it came from. A large catalogue without that already exists and there is no need for another.
I am a gallery or an antique dealer. What will it cost?
The terms will be published here before it opens, with the commission on display and no exclusivity or lock-in. It is the first rule of the pact: what is charged gets published. There is no figure to give yet, which is why we do not give one.
If I leave my details, am I committing to anything?
No, and neither are we. It is so we can tell you when there are terms to read, and so we can ask what you need while it is being built. It is not a registration, nothing is charged and unsubscribing is replying to the email.
