Who they were
Born in Málaga in 1881, died in Mougins in 1973. Creator of cubism with Braque, and the name any conversation about twentieth-century art begins and ends with. What matters here is narrower: his painting is beyond anyone’s reach, but his PRINTS and his CERAMICS are not. He etched for sixty years and editioned ceramics in large runs, and that is where a private buyer can genuinely start —with the same checks as any edition: numbering, technique and certificate—. In Barcelona his public work is on the façade of the architects’ association on plaça Nova: a frieze of his drawings cut into concrete by sandblasting, by the Norwegian Carl Nesjar in the early sixties, facing the cathedral.
