Who they were
From Barcelona, died in Palma in 1983. He began figurative, passed through fauvism and cubism, and in Paris entered surrealism, from which he emerged with a vocabulary of his own —the star, the bird, the woman, the moon— that became recognisable in any medium. And that is the fact that matters here: Miró was not only a painter. He made ceramics, sculpture and above all PRINTS, in quantity and over decades, and that is the part of his work still circulating in the market and within reach of an ordinary collection. In Barcelona he left two works that charge no admission: the pavement at the pla de la Boqueria, in the middle of La Rambla, and «Dona i Ocell», his last public work.
