Who they were
A Havana artist divided between Cuba and Madrid, he works on the city and on what the city promises and fails to deliver. He photographs half-collapsed buildings and draws over them in thread the building they were meant to be; he builds models of projects that were never raised. Havana is his material, but the subject —utopia stalled on the building site— is not only Cuban. He has shown at Documenta and the Venice Biennale, and his work is in the Reina Sofía, MoMA and Tate.
